In March 2011 a 128 foot wave hit the japanese island of Hokkaido causing many buildings to fall down and crumble. The aftermath of the tsunami resulted in the death of over 19,000 people and many more disappearances. Japan's tsunami has also released over 300 tons of radioactive material into the Pacific Ocean.
In December 2004 a wave measuring 65 feet tall hit islands all throughout the Indian Ocean but mainly the island of Sumatra in Indonesia. The tsunami killed roughly 230,000 people and displacing many more and leaving some without food, water shelter of electricity. In Febuary 2010 a tsunami measuring at about 82 feet hit the country of Chile killing 525 people and causing 25 people to go missing. The tsunami was caused by a 8.8 magnitude earthquake making it the 6th largest earthquake ever recorded. The tsunami cost the Chilaen economy about $15-30 billion US dollars.
In May 1960 a waves measuring about 82 feet high struck the chilaen coast causing 2,230-6000 casualties. The waves were caused by the largest earthquake ever recorded at a 9.5 magnitude. The earthquake and tsunami cost the country of Chile about $3.2-6.4 billion US dollars.
