WHO?

DAVID WALKER, BLACK AUTHOR OF AN INCENDIARY ANTISLAVERY PAMPHLET.

REASON 1.

  • 1829 he published the 76th page pamphlet
  • Walker demanded an immediate and universal end to slavery
  • His appeal pride in his black leaders
  • Also with its call for slaves to revolt against their masters

REASON 2.

  • He caused great alarm with his appeal.
  • Particularly in Georgia,Virginia,NC.
  • The movements of slaves & free blacks were restricted
  • Any contract between blacks & incoming ships was prohibited

REASON 3

  • He died in Boston 3 months after the 3rd publication
  • The cause of death remains a mystery
  • It was believed that he was POISONED due to slave owners
  • He was born after his fathers death & became the 1st black -
  • To get elected to the Massachusetts state legislature.
