HISTORY OF HALLOWEEN

  • During this festival, people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts.
  • Pope Gregory III designated November 1 as a time to honor all saints and martyrs; called All Saints' Day
  • The night before that was called All Hallows' Eve, later known as Halloween.
  • They believed that this night was when the worlds of the living and the dead overlapped and ghosts caused havoc.
