SECTION A

  • Death Valley is the lowest, hottest, driest place in the U.S.
  • It is 140 miles long and 15 miles wide
  • The lowest part of Death Valley lies 282 feet below sea level
  • The hottest day on record was 134 degrees Fahrenheit

SECTION B

  • Many settlers have died trying to cross Death Valley
  • Death Valley had boom towns during the California gold rush
  • Towns were quickly deserted after the gold rush ended
  • Death Valley was made a National Park in 1994
  • The National Park has been expanded many times

SECTION C

  • The park covers 5,270 square miles
  • The true Death Valley is in the middle of the park
  • Native plants are fewer because people have brought in other plants
  • Neon glows from Las Vegas and the Central Valley are effecting Death Valley

SECTION D

  • Pickle weed and salt grass are only two plant that are able to live in Death Valley
  • A man who owned Harmony Borax Works is famous for the 20-mule team wagons
