DECISION MATRIX

  • A chart used by decision makers
  • Aids in identifying best option
  • Identifies factors to base evaluation
  • Weigh factors on importance to final decision
  • Score each option on each criterion

PURPOSE

  • Their use facilitates decision making
  • Helps to systemically identify
  • Analyze
  • Rate relationships among information
  • Narrows options when there are multiple dimensions to a decision

METHODS USED

  • Method 1 - rating scale
  • Method 2 - rank order each option
  • Method 3 - identify criteria and assign a weight to each criteria
  • Select an option as a baseline to compare all others to
  • Use a scale of -1, 0, +1 and give -1 is worse than baseline, 0 if same, +1 if better

CRITERIA USED IN MATRICES

  • Effectiveness
  • Feasibility
  • Capability, support provided
  • Cost, ease of implementation
  • Time required

PROCEDURES

  • Determine and record criteria and its' relative importance
  • Assign a weight to each criterion
  • List the options across the chart
  • Score each criterion and multiply the scores by the weight assigned
  • Compare the totals for each to identify the highest scoring option
