Why want Independence?

-Colonists wanted independence from Britain because the people thought the king was taking too much advantages from them and not supporting them at all.

-The king also didn't let the colonists elect what laws should pass, which made them mad.

What are some famous lines in the declaration?

-Government should protect individual rights.

-"All men are created equal"

-"People should be free to pursue..."

However, during the time when the declaration was finally created, African American slaves still wasn't free.
