The definition of decorations is designs, patterns or pieces added to your clay, to enhance its beauty. It can include interior detail or pattern.

The earliest type of decorative art was ancient Japanese pottery, ceramics pioneered from about 14,000 BCE.
It was also widely produced from about 5,000 BCE by a number of ancient Mediterranean civilizations, before reaching the Geometric Style, Black-Figure and Red-Figure style of Greek pottery.

Roberto Lugo
Roberto Lugo is an American potter, poet, educator and social activist. His works draw together hip-hop, politics, and history into ceramics. He is 38 years old and was born in Philadelphia, and before he found ceramics, he was a graffiti artist. He loves to work with clay, and porcelain.
How are decorations used?
Decorations are used to make the piece personalized and unique. Some ways you can do such a thing is by combing, the process of making lines either by dragging a tool through the clay, or wiping wet slip clear, to show the under surface.
Faceting
Faceting (facET ing) is another way decorations are incorporated into clay pieces. This is the process of cutting away strips of a pots surface, using a knife, razor, or a wire tool.
impressing
Impressing is simply using an object or tool is pushed into the clay, to make an imprint- just like we did for our clay houses' windows.

I would really love to make something using all impressing, I think it leaves a really pretty design.
