FISHY FACTS:

  • Deep oceans go down to 11km so things get really dark, so the sun nearly or doesn't reach this zone.
  • Many animals have amazing adaptations to survive in such environment, because the pressure is immense because it's so deep down.
  • Many animals have very little or no bones down in the deep zone because if they did their body would collapse and shrink so the inhabitants of this area are invertebrates like jellyfish, squid, octupus, ect.

EXAMPLES OF ORGANISIMS

  • Jellyfish
  • Anglerfish
  • Giant squid
  • Cookie cutter shark
  • Flashlight fish
  • Viperfish
  • Bristlemouths
  • Vampire Squid
  • Frilled shark
  • Giant spider crab

THE MARIANA TRENCH

  • The deepest part of the ocean is in the Mariana Trench. It is 10,994 meters deep.
  • It is located in Honolulu, Hawaii in the pacific ocean.
  • The Mariana Trench is the deepest trench and zone in the world.

PRESSURE?

  • The more you go down the more the pressure increases.
  • If you go down and back up quickly you can get the bends or decompression sickness and so then you can be in so much pain that you can die.
  • Some animals that live in the Deep Zone are born to survive the pressure, and if you bring them up to the surface they die.
