  • Stripped of wealth
  • Kristallnacht
  • Put in ghettos out of their will
  • Judenrate to rule over the ghettos
  • Create own graves

  • Boycott products (don't really work)
  • Throw Jews out of their jobs, homes

  • created a negative image of the Jewish people
  • Jews blamed for economic and social problems in Germany and the world.
  • films, posters and dramas taught and projected a distorted image of the Jews.

PROPAGANDA + ANTISEMITISM

  • lay the groundwork for the elimination of the rights and freedoms of the Jews.
  • Lead to ignorance, violence, humiliation, and persecution of Jews.
  • Citizen approval of the governments actions
  • hatred against the Jews set the stage for mass genocide.
  • Why? Don't see Jews as people

LAWS

  • Nuremberg Laws in 1935 enforced the persecution of Jews.
  • increased the isolation of the Jews gradually
  • prevented Germans from marrying Jews
  • stripped Jews of civil rights, removed them from jobs, and restrict their daily lives
  • Jews were eventually excluded from society altogether

  • Enabling act
  • Allowed Hitler to make laws without Reichstag approval
  • Used to create laws against undesirables

MASS KILLINGS

  • Deep hatred led to ignorance
  • Germans were unable to see that Jews were human beings
  • One can't feel guilt for killing someone...
  • Because you really know the other person so it's easier to kill
  • Dehumanization enabled Germans to murder millions of Jews because they could not feel guilt

  • Without dehumanizing the Jews the horrific deaths would not have been possible
