WHAT Happened To Zwaanendael?
A Lenape sachem took a tin medallion from the settlement
He thought it could make a fine pipe for smoking tobacco
When the colonists complained to the Indians about the thief, they executed him because they didn't want to stop trading.
However the friends of the thief were enraged. So they burned down the settlement
This is what happened before David Pietersen De Viries found the ruins and skulls of the settlers
9.
WHY THE COLONY OF DELAWARE IS SPECIAL
The Dutch traded with the Lenni-Lenape. They exchanged hatchets, mirrors, combs, iron pots, and smoking pots(for fish and deer meat)
The Leape also liked a special kind of wooden cloth that the Dutch had, it was called duffel
Duffel replaced deer skins and the making of Indian clothing
