Deponent Verbs

  • Comes from the  latin words "de" and "pono"
  • Literally means to put aside
  • They "put aside" their active endings
  • Usually has 3 passive p.p. translated actively

Congugations

  • The 2nd p.p. determines conjugation 
  • 1st - Has a long "a" sound
  • 2nd - Has a long "e" sound
  • 3rd - Has a short "e" sound
  • 3rd

Examples

  • Loquor, Loqui, Locutus Sum - Talk
  • Conor, Conari, Conatus Sum - Try
  • Vereor, Vereri, Veritus Sum - Fear
  • Regredior, Regredi, Regressus Sum - Return
  • Experior, Experiri, Expertus Sum - Test
