HARDER TO QUIT:

  • People with depression are more likely to smoke.
  • It may also be harder to quit smoking than those who aren't depressed.
  • This mainly being that the nicotine in cigarettes is addictive.

HOW DEPRESSION LEADS TO SMOKING:

  • Maybe people who are depressed turn to smoking, hoping to feel better and reduce their depression symptoms.
  • This is just one of a few ideas of how depression can lead to smoking.

  • There are links between smoking cigarettes and depression.
  • It has also been proposed that certain genetic tendencies may increase both the risk of smoking and depression in some people.

FEEL BETTER:

  • An increased risk of depression is among the many negative effects of smoking.
  • People who have depression may smoke to feel better.
  • Or smokers might get depression more easily because they smoke

If I get Depressed After Quitting Smoking‚ Should I Start Smoking Again?
No! Smoking does not treat depression. Remember, smoking is the cause of many health problems. It's bad for the smoker and the people around them. If you have depression look for professional help.
