  • Dharavi contains 1 million people

  • ​has own schools, places of worship, and stores
  • ​lies between two railway lines
  • houses stacked on top of each other

RATPICKERS

  • biggest industry is recycling, Mumbai's trash goes to Dharavi and the adults find items for themselves
  • They pick, clean, and recycle old plastic and sell them to companies as raw materials
  • They make a living for themselves here
  • Other jobs include pottery makers, factory workers, and tailors, although ratpickers are common
  • The acorn group provides for ratpickers children to go to school and get education

SOLUTIONS

  • Many inhabitants of Dharavi spend their life helpin their kids become successful with schooling
  • Many people have had this schooling in studies and the arts and have gone on to become wealthy
  • Many people stay in Dharavi though because that is their family and community
  • Mumbai hopes to build on top of. Dharavi but they are fighting for their home for a bright future
