  • Little or no insulin produced by the pancreas
  • Usual age is under 20

TYPE 2

  • Body doesn't make enough insulin or the body doesn't use it currently
  • Usual age is 40-60

SYMPTOMS

  • Thirst
  • Weight loss
  • Frequent unrination
  • Tiredness
  • Thrush
  • Blurred vision
  • Vomiting

COMPLICATIONS

  • Diabetic coma
  • Low blood sugar
  • Renal failure
  • Blindnes
  • Heart attack
  • Stroke
  • Decrease nerve function
  • Amputation

TREATMENT FOR TYPE 1

  • Sugar controlled healthy diet
  • Exercise
  • Daily insulin injections
  • Regular testing of blood sugar levels

TREATMENT FOR TYPE 2

  • Sugar controlled healthy diet
  • Exercise
  • Normal weight
  • Diabetes pills or insulin shots
  • Regular testing of blood sugar levels
