A metabolic disease in a person's body that makes it hard to create any or enough insulin that causes much glucose in the blood.
Two Types !!

CAUSES FOR TYPE ONE

  • Not enough insulin due to the damage of insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas.
  • Heredity(Genes)
  • Environmental Factors- Food, viruses, toxins

CAUSES FOR TYPE TWO

  • Not enough insulin
  • Genes
  • Lack of physical activity
  • Occurs in middle aged, obese, and overweight people

SYMPTOMS

  • Hunger
  • Itchy skin, and dry mouth.
  • Urinating very often and becoming thirstier.
  • Blurred vision

TREATMENTS

  • Blood Glucose Testing
  • Medications: Type 1- Must use insulin. Type 2- Healthy exercising and eating.

STATISTICS

  • 29.1 million people have diabetes.
  • Adults(20-above): 1 out of every 10 people have diabetes.
  • 8.1 million people are undiagnosed.
  • 1.4 million people are diagnosed with diabetes.
  • 7th leading cause of death in the U.S.
