23WERE CAUGHT ESCAPING ALCATRAZ.
6 inmates were shot and killed and 2 drownded.
THERE WAS 1.5 MILE SWIM TO SHORE AFTER GETTING OUT OF THE BARS
The temperature of the water averaged 55 degrees.
The current was strong and unpredictable.
TO ESCAPE THEODORE COLE AND RALPH ROE FILED THE BARS AND ESCAPED
JUNE 11,1962 FRANK MORRIS AND JOHN AND CLERANCE ANGLIN THROUGH
JOHN PAUL MANGED TO ESCAPE ALONE AND SWAM TO SHORE.
