Racial profiling is the use of an individual's race or ethnicity by law enforcement personnel as a key factor in deciding whether to engage in enforcement (e.g. stop and search or arrest).
For example, in the summer of 1991 a African American was stopped by a cop for no reason then got taken to the police station for questioning because they believed that the man had drugs.
So for an hour the police searched the mans car for drugs but failed to find any. Then the man filed a law suit to the police department. So the plaintiffs did a history check on the police department on I-95 and found out that the police have been stoping Hispanics and African American there a lot and equal protection cause and the fourth amendment.
So then as the court went on the judge told the police department to sent a copy of all TTPD vehicle stops to a plaintiffs attorneys office. And settled the case by the police department paying 150,000$ in damage.
