Differentiation

Does the word make you want to scream?

Differentiation is NOT a set of strategies... It's a way of thinking about teaching and learning.

Strategies... are no more differentiation than a hammer and a saw are the house they help to build

4 Ways to Differentiate

  • Content – what the student needs to learn or how the student will access the information
  • Process – activities the student engages in to learn the content
  • Product – tasks/projects that demonstrate mastery
  • Learning environment – the way the classroom works and feels
Content- reaching above the verb & more engaging input

Process- workshops, tiered assignments, multiple pathways

Product- self differentiation- MLK example/ type of product

1- Think about the ideals expressed in MLK's speech. Create a visual representation of the ideas and write a paragraph (CER) that explains these ideals.
2- Think about the U.S. today. What other dreams of social justice have surfaced in response to political, economic, or social inequalities? Create a visual representation of the ideas and write a paragraph (CER) that explains these ideals.
