THE FUNCTION

  • It digest food to give you nutrients you need for your body
  • It also takes waste and filters it out of your body

  • Mouth

  • Pharynx (throat)
  • Esophagus
  • Small intestine
  • Large intestine
  • Liver

  • Gallbladder
  • Pancreas

THE MOUTH

  • Use it to chew food
  • Both physical and chemical changes happen here
  • Teeth are in the mouth
  • The tongue is in the mouth
  • Leads to the esophagus

ESOPHAGUS

  • Peristalsis occurs here (food moving down the throat)
  • Leads to stomach
  • Right inside here --------->

STOMACH

  • Use it to digest food
  • Stomach uses acid to chemically break down food
  • Has protective layer so the stomach doesn't dissolve in the acid
  • Leads to small intestine

SMALL INTESTINE

  • The nutrients/vitamins are extracted here
  • Leads to large intestine
  • Most water extracted (making pee)
  • Right here ----->

LARGE INTESTINE

  • More nutrients are extracted
  • Any water left is extracted (making poop)
  • Poop is not part of the digestive system, be aware
  • Leads to your butt

LIVER

  • The liver processes some of the liquids and foods coming in
  • Production of stomach acids
