Diggie
A Extraordinary New Yorker
By Alicia Frampton and Pano Kostouros
At a young age Diggie was abandoned by his parents and left in a boat to drift down the river. His parents thought he was to small to survive ( .25 feet) so they abandoned him.
At a young age Diggie was abandoned by his parents, and left in a boat to drift down the river. His parents left him for they thought he was so small he would soon die.
As Diggie drifted down the river, his boat was knocked over by a strong storm, and he fell into a beaver's dam. The beaver took in small Diggie and raised him as his own.
As Diggie grew the beaver showed him how to swim like a beaver, breathe underwater using air bubbles off his hair, and how to lift heavy things underwater.
The beaver showed Diggie how to be a beaver.
When Diggie was 16 he faced a big problem. All the water from the river began to overflow. The water went all the way to the towns and cities, flooding people's homes and farms. He had to find a way to help.
He asked the beaver for advice, and the beaver said there was a river over Niagara Mountain that lead to the ocean. He told Diggie if he destroyed the mountain the river could merge with the other river and finish in the ocean.
Diggie knew what he had to do. He gathered the strongest beavers to help him take down the mountain. That night they took off, for in the morning they would reach the mountain.
When they arrived they started working. The beavers used their strong tails to dig at the mountain. Diggie used the underwater strength his friend Beaver showed him. They worked day and night for 6 weeks.
After Diggie and the beavers finished digging up the mountain Diggie compressed the useless dirt into big rocks and threw them into space. That night Diggie and the beavers saw the most beautiful objects fly in the sky.
The next day they wondered why the water hadn't merged with the other river. There was just a big hole going down where the mountain was. And since the day before they have been hearing a weird roaring sound.
Diggie knew something was wrong so he took Bob the beaver and used his tail to propel himself high into the sky. When he saw what happened he was in shock.
He and Bob fell for Bob was in shock too. At the last moment Kitty the beaver saved them.
They realized the roaring sound was a huge waterfall. They decided to name it Niagra Falls, for the mountain's name was Mt. Niagra. The beavers decided to go home, but Diggie said he had to continue on his adventures.
Diggie slowly descended the waterfall with his companion Chippy the beaver. When they arrived further down the river they made a camp.
The next morning they traveled all the way to the end of the river and to the start of the ocean. Diggie wanted to go for a swim. Him and Chippy got in, but Chippy heard something and got scared and ran away.
Diggie dove in determined to find the creature that made the noise. When he dove down he found the biggest octopus Octo who became his loyal companion for the rest of his life.
When Diggie returned to his beaver dam he found all the people gathered. Diggie was a hero!
