A task is assigned and when all benchmarks are completed, a badge is awarded.

• Organizations

Why is it significant?
Badges offer a more personal learning experience because the focus is on individual skill acquisition.

What are the downsides?
Badges have not yet been accepted as a measure of accomplishment; and therefore they are not valued by all institutions or higher education.

What are the implications for teaching and learning?
Badges can allow educators to offer a more individualized curriculum and they can redefine how academic institutions award degrees.
