Digital Footprint Vocabulary

PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Digital footprint

Vocabulary

Presentation

by Victoria Harris

reputation

How people think of you
I used this picture for reputation because it supports my definition of the word. In my opinion, it's also a really good quote.

Persist

To continuously do something
I chose this picture because it's not only a good quote, it supports my definition.

COntext

The details around something that help to determine meaning
I picked this picture because it shows that all those different factors contribute to the meaning of "entity", just like how the context of a situation helps to determine what's going on.

Tag

Something that connects two or more things
I chose this picture because it shows one person connected to 4 others(that you can see, anyway). When you tag someone or something on the internet, you link it to whatever you tagged it to.

Private

Exclusive and only for certain people to access
I chose this picture because with things that are private, you need to be on a list of exceptions to be able to view whatever it is that's private. However, even if it's private, once it's on the internet, it stays there. Just how an iPod or something with an access code can be hacked. It's not completely private.

Public

Open to everyone
I chose this picture because on the internet, when you post something public, everyone can see it, including people you don't know. That's why these people are faceless.

Perception

How you view things
I chose this picture because you can't really tell whether it depicts three sticks or four, just how different people perceive different things.

Reality

Something that is real
I chose this picture because its an optical illusion. And, an illusion is the opposite of reality.

Interpret

To explain or translate
I chose this picture because it demonstrates all the different ways to translate something. For example, English to Dutch, Dutch to Polish, Polish to Italian, Italian to French, French to Portuguese, etc. When you're on the internet, how you interpret something determines how you feel about it. And if you misinterpret, the results could be disastrous.

Post

To display on a website
I chose this picture because, well, you post things on Post-It notes. There really isn't any deep symbolic meaning.

Publish

To make something generally known
I chose this picture because Harry Potter is a famous published work by J. K. Rowling. If you make a reference to Harry Potter, most people will understand it, because Harry Potter is a very popular series that was even made into movies.

Trajectory

The path a person or object takes
I chose this picture because it shows the trajectory of a golf ball.

misconstrue

To misunderstand
I chose this picture because the man is saying B, the display shows A, and everyone thinks C. Nobody understands what is being taught. If you interpret wrongly, you will most likely misconstrue.

Profile

Information about a certain thing
I chose this picture because on the internet, you can never be entirely sure about people. It's all too easy to lie and fill in false information on your online profile.

Identitiy

Who and what you are
I chose this picture because no two thumbprints are exactly the same, and checking a person's fingerprints are a sure-fire way to make sure that they are who they say they are. Of course, nobody is going to go around checking people's fingerprints, now are they?

footprint

Something that signifies where you've been
What better picture for the word "footprint", than footprints?
