Characteristics of Learners Upper Elementary (3rd and 4th Grade)
Prior knowledge will vary widely depending on past teachers and family members. Most will have little prior knowledge. We are assuming there will be none.
Behavior Considerations: Students are highly motivated to participate in tech related activities. Behavior issues will be at a minimum. Establish transition expectations before beginning.
Vertical alignment: Digital Footprints are not addressed at earlier grades this will be the first interaction that students have with the concepts. DF will be addressed later at the middle school and junior high levels, however, currently they will be introducing the concept as well since this has not been addressed prior to this year.

- The students will be able to identify and judge what a digital footprint is with 80% accuracy. - Students will be able to identify information that would be appropriate and inappropriate to share online with 80% accuracy.
Formative - Google form Pre-assessment graded with Fluberoo to get baseline - PicCollage - Create a collage of the types of information that can be found online that can be linked to an individual - Word Cloud - Create a word cloud of locations that personal information can be found online -Quizlet - vocabulary games - Kahoot - vocabulary games
Summative - Private Jumper game saves score. Students choose which option is appropriate to post online. - Create a PSA collaboratively with other students about the digital footprint.
PSA creation- students will demonstrate their understanding of why they need to stay current and be able to explain the topic of their digital footprint.
Students will participate in an actual scavenger hunt in which they will work collaboratively to find fictional information about a teacher around the room. Students will then bring together the information that they found and guess which teacher posted that information.
Create a PicCollage of Information that can be tracked online.
Students will use PicCollage or similar program to illustrate what types of information can be tracked online. Emphasis will be given to using creative commons photos and illustrations.
In our culminating activity, students will use the information that they have learned to create a video PSA about what a Digital Footprint is and why kids their age should be aware of the information that they are sharing or is being shared about them. The following rubric will be used.
At the end of the unit, parents will be invited to a "Cybersecurity Night." A short overview of the information that has been presented to students will be shared with parents. Some of the student PSA will be shown.
