Divine Salvation

THE STORY OF HOW GOD SAVED US THROUGHOUT HISTORY.

COVENANT WITH NOAH

  • Human sin eliminated the unity God intended us to have.
  • The flood was divine punishment for our actions.
  • After the great Flood, God entered into an everlasting covenant.
  • He promised this to Noah, his descendants, and all living things.
  • He would never destroy Earth with a flood ever again.
The covenant was made to unify all people through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Covenant with Abraham

  • God wanted to further unify his people.
  • Promised him many descendants, gave him a new name.
  • Abraham became the father of faith for the Jewish people.
  • God said that he'd be his God and his people's forever.
  • Had twelve sons who would be the tribes of Israel.

COVENANT WITH MOSES, SINAI COVENANT

  • After God freed the Israelites from Egypt, he gave Moses his laws.
  • The purpose was to help people recognize God and only serve him.
  • The Law would help form the Israelites as God's special people.
  • On Mt. Sinai, God said he was YHWH, or "I am who I am."
  • This freeing of the Israelites Is called the Exodus.

KINGS AND PROPHETS

  • God promised the Israelites their own land; Canaan ruled by kings.
  • King David made Jerusalem his capital; Solomon built the city Temple.
  • The nation then split up into a northern and southern kingdom.
  • God sent prophets that we're encouraging to help and reunite them.
  • The New Covenant promised that the Prophets would proclaim God's salvation.

WISDOM LITERATURE

  • God inspired a lot of literature that guides us to a successful life.
  • The book of Psalms is an essential part of this.
  • The Psalms help us express our feelings of hope, thanksgiving etc.
  • We also learn more about God by reading these Psalms.
  • The Psalms most importantly praise God for all that he has done for us.

JESUS CHRIST, THE NEW COVENANT

  • The finale of Salvation History, is the entrance of Jesus into our world.
  • His birth took place while the Romans ruled... after the Jews returned.
  • Jesus is God's ultimate Word, his maximum Revelation. He is the only son of God.
  • Jesus accomplished our salvation and taught us in words and actions about God.
  • John the Baptist, a relative of Jesus, was sent as a final prophet to prepare the way for our Lord.
