Yesterday was ash Wednesday,

The very first day of lent.

Every year, we make a crown of thorns

as a family faith formation activity.

usually we bake our crown of thorns

but we are doing our kitchen over and have no oven.

Here is the recipe if you have an oven:
4 cups flour
1 cup salt
2 cups water
Lots of toothpicks
Form the dough into a braided wreath, add lots of toothpicks to make it look like thorns, and then bake for 45 minutes at 350 degrees.

During Lent, every time your parents catch you being good you get to remove one of the thorns. You try to remove them all before Easter!

If you don't have an oven right now,

Here's how we did our thorny crown this year.

We used play doh!

we did the same exact thing except it was no baking!

Mold the play doh

and then add the toothpicks!

And then be kind!

try to get rid of them all by easter!
