PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Dog Bite Documentation

Taking a bite out of paperwork

Situation

Dog bite instances are not being recorded properly
Proper documentation and reporting of animal bites is an essential component of prevention (Lyu, Piron, Ehnert, Beeler, Swanson, & Kuo, 2016).

Background

A physical Animal Control form was hand-written by the RN

Assessment

RNs feel too busy for additional paperwork
Emergency Departments should be able to report dog bites, in a way that takes less time (Bregman & Slavinski 2012).

Recommendation

The EMR now contains an animal e-reporting icon
The ease and usefulness of technology will affect the perception of staff, and result in higher compliance (Garavand, Mohseni, Asadi, Etemadi, Mojadi-Joo, & Moosavi, 2016).
