SEA MAMMALS

BODY

  • Can be up to 30 feet long
  • Move tail fluke up and down to swim
  • Use dorsal fin and 2 flippers to steer

HABITAT

  • Found in all oceans
  • Some found in rivers
  • Often found in warm water near equator
  • Salt water keeps skin soft

DIET

  • Eat fish, squid, and shrimp
  • Use sharp teeth to get food
  • Swallow food whole
  • Often work together to get food

LIFE CYCLE

  • Females give birth to one dolphin at a time
  • Babies are about 4 feet long
  • Mother helps baby get to surface for air

OTHER FACTS

  • Can leap up to 16 feet out of the water
  • Use blowhole on head to breathe
  • About 32 different kinds of dolphins
