FAST FACTS

  • Dolphins are mammals, meaning they give birth to live young
  • Dolphins live in groups called pods
  • Only one side of a dolphin's brain sleeps at a time, so they keep breathing
  • There are about a 100 teeth in an adult dolphin's mouth
  • A dolphin can jump up to 6 meters into the air

  • The Killer Whale is the largest member of the dolphin family
  • A dolphin's tail is called the FLUKE
  • Dolphins can dive up to 300 meteres
  • Being very playful, dolphins often tease other even other sea creatures
  • Dolphins live for about 17years but ages up to 50 have been recorded

DOLPHINS & HUMANS

  • 2007 - dolphins saved a surfer from being attacked by a shark and helped him get to shore
  • Dolphins have been used since the 1960's in the United States Military to locate underwater mines
  • Dolphins are often used in movie making ie Flipper and Dolphin Tale
  • Dolphins are almost as smart as humans and enjoy being around us
  • Recently dolphins have been used to treat depression in humans
