JOHN BOSCO

BY ARIANNA GILMER

CHILDHOOD

John Bosco was born in the beginning of the Industrial Revolution and the ending of the Napoleon era. Only two years after John`s birth his father Francis died leaving his mother to provide for him and his two brothers. At a very young age John showed much interest in gaining knowledge and helping those in need.

KNOWLEDGE

Margaret Bosco divided the paltry estate left by her husband and allowed her youngest son to go to Castelnuovo to attend public school and board with a good family she knew. Throughout his school work John did not lose sight of his dream to become a priest.

TRADE SCHOOL

When John was about 20, he was ready for the seminary. He created a trade school to help the young boys off the street. His oratory was for young boys to be able to come and the education they needed. Soon he began to realize that some of the boys did not have home to go to when they were done.

ORPHANAGE

He created an orphanage for those who were in need of a home. He soon needed to relocate his boys to a new place when the other priest said he needed to leave. With the number of boys showing up increasing more people began worried about the trouble they could cause when they're together.

They boys meet in different spots, such as churches, empty lots and cemetery chapels. While they meet Saint Bosco listen to confessions and give them a Mass. While the boys were ther he played many types of games with them.

SALESIAN GIRLS

Soon Saint Bosco began to speak to the young girls the ask for help too. He then created a new religious congregation for young women cofounded by Mary Mazzarello. Most of theses young women were the second born child or younger because they could not be traded to inherit land. While they were there they were able to learn to sew, cook, and weave things to help them round the house.

POVERTY & AGE

Throughout Don Bosco life though he spent millions on his boys he lived a life of poverty. He wore hand me down clothes, he believe that doing gods work was enough rewardDon Bosco he grew older his work of god continued by praying for those who ask and cleansing those who have sinned. Encourage by his friends to slow down; he never did which cause him in old age to lose sight in one eye and impaired in the other.

REASON,RELIGION,LOVING-KINDNESS

As a priest Saint Bosco was also kind and gentle to his younger audience , some say because he had a bad experience with priest so he wanted to insure everyone felt safe around him. He care not about money ,but doing the work of god.

Don boscos idea of the Salesian schools have been passed down through generations with the message of reason, religion, and loving-kindness. Without Don Bosco our school couldn't have been made and stand for the things it means today. This is why Don Bosco's life story means so much to our school community.
