  • His birthdate was sometime in 1386, but the specific date is unknown
  • Sculpture - " the greatest sculpture of the 15th century"

  • Forerunner of humanistic expression
  • Invented the shiacciato technique; making something 3Don a flat surface
  • One of his patrons was cosimo de Medici Q
  • Introduced perspective - factored in the point of view

DAVID STATUE

  • The David statue was one of donatello's biggest achievements
  • He first made a marble version of the statue
  • Then he made the bronze, and more famous second version
  • It was the first free standing nude statue since ancient times
  • " the father of renaissance sculpture" and introduced perspective

GATTAMELATA

  • Considered the best proportioned sculpture
  • Venetian nobleman - Erasmo Da narni's
  • Took ten years to make
  • Was paid for by da narni's family after he died

BRUNELLESCHI

  • Donatello was with Brunelleschi when he went to study domes
  • They both wanted to figure out the Ancient Rome techniques
  • They went back to Rome a few more times afterward
  • Thought to of influence each others work
  • they were young and made money by working as goldsmiths
