  • He was born son to Niccolo di betto bardi.
  • His father was a member of the Florence wool combers.
  • Donatello was born donato di Niccolo di betto bardi
  • His family was native to Italy

BACKROUND

  • He was born in 1386
  • He died on December 13, 1466 at 80 years old
  • He was educated in the house of Martelli.
  • There he was learning crafts and had artistic training
  • He worked briefly with Lorenzo Ghilbert.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

  • Donatello started assisting Lorenzo and soon started making his own statues.
  • Major artwork: David, The feast of Herod, magdalene, and many more.

IMPACTS

  • Between 1415- 1426 he created 5 statues for the campanile of Santa Maria.
  • 1425- 1427 he collaborated with Michelozzo on monument for antipope john xxiii
  • In 1430 he creat "David" and it became his most famous artwork.
  • "David" was the first known free standing nude statue produced
