WHAT IS DOWN SYNDROME?

  • Down syndrome is a genetic disorder through which their is an extra copy of the 21 chromosomes
  • Down syndrome can cause different appearance in the face.
  • Just because you have Down Syndrome does not mean your personality changes.
  • It is also caused by having an extra "21" chromosome.

HOW DOES DOWN SYNDROME AFFECT THE BODY?

  • People that are born with Down syndrome have several disabilities.
  • Increased risk of medical conditions
  • Causes speech and language to develop slowly.
  • Their is a differ in the appearance of people born with down syndromes face.

IS DOWN SYNDROME INHERITED?

  • In most cases Down syndrome is not inherited
  • It is all cause by having an extra 21 chromosome

CHANCES OF BEING BORN WITH DOWN SYNDROME

  • Occurs in about 1in 830 new borns
  • 250,000 people in the U.S. are born with Down syndrome
  • The chances of having an child with Down syndrome is more common for woman of older age

IS THERE A CURE FOR DOWN SYNDROME?

  • There are no cures for Down syndrome
  • Doctors are trying to have regular check ups to decrease the risk of Down syndrome

WHAT ARE THE STRUGGLES?

  • Not being able to do some things by yourself
  • People staring at you
  • People not thinking you are smart or can do the same things.

HOW DO YOU KNOW IF YOU HAVE DOWN SYNDROME?

  • Although a newborn's physical characteristics may lead doctors to suspect they have Down syndrome .
  • You may think that you have Down syndrome, but you never know until you get checked out.

DOWN SYNDROME CHILDREN

  • Down syndrome children are very sweet, they have one of the best personalitys.
  • You should never judge someone by their looks.
  • They love hugs, and they're very affectionate.

HOW LONG DO PEOPLE WITH DOWN SYNDROME LIVE?

  • Doctors predict that children with downs will only live until the age 10
  • Scientists do not fully understand why you would die so soon.
