History of downers

• Downers were created December 6, 1864
• Downers were used to put humans to sleep 
• They became illegal in the 1970's
• It was discovered by German researcher Adolf von Baeyer
• Depressants were originated in Mesopatamia

• Barbs,Booze,Candy,Downers etc...
• Trade names are "O",Op,Poppy

How the drug is administered

• Depressants may be.....
• Swallowed:swallowed with water
• Injected:cracked open mixed with water and injected
• Smoked:cracked open,wrapped in paper,lighted and smoked
• Snorted:cracked open and sniffed

effects of the body

• Depressants are substances which slow down the-
• normal function of the central nervous system.
• Long term effects are impaired sexual function,chronic sleep problems-
• and death.
• Short term effects are slowed pulse/breathing,slurred speech,drowsiness

addiction rate

• 40 million or 1 in 7 people in the world are addicted to drugs
• The age rate is 12 years and older who use drugs
• 27 million have heart disease
• 26 million people have diabetes
• 19 million people die from cancer, because the effect of downers
