10 Ways to Be Involved With Your Child's Education

• Observe your Scholar’s classroom at least twice a year.

• Participate in at least two Parent-Teacher Conferences and/or meetings.
• Ask teachers about online, or telephone conference options.

• Attend at least one extra-curricular event this school year.

• Join and participate in parent organizations (PTA/PTSA/PTO).
• Consider creating a parent organization at your Scholar's school if one does not already exist. (It's not as hard as you think.)

• Assist your Scholar with their homework assignments.
• Learning concepts together -going to the library, researching online, asking a peer expert for help - is a great way to help Scholars with homework that you may need help understanding as well.

• This year, volunteer at least ten hours at your Scholar’s school.
• If location or schedule is an issue, ask if you can be a "virtual volunteer" by donating resources and supplies.

• Consider becoming a Classroom Helper.
• Or ask the teacher what supplies the class is running low on.

• Read to your Scholar.
• And also, encourage your Scholar to read to you. (Reading the pictures does count as reading for some emergent readers.)

• Become familiar with grade-level requirements. What assessments or tests does your Scholar take? What projects are due?
• Become familiar with high school graduation requirements.
• Where should you begin your search? TRY: Teacher, Registrar, Guidance Counselor, School Website, County Website, State of Maryland Website.

• Stay on top of your Scholar's medical and dental appointments.
• Take your Scholar(s) to scheduled doctor and dentist appointments.
