PRESENTATION OUTLINE

DREAMS

BY LANGSTON HUGHES

Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly
Hold fast to dreams
For when dreams go
Life is a barren field
Frozen with snow

The poem was all about
reaching all your dreams
and making them come true.

The message of the poem
is to reach your dreams.
No dream is too big or small if you are willing to achieve it.

SOUND DEVICES FOUND

  • Rhyme- For if dreams die, that cannot fly
  • Rhythm- Hold fast to dreams, for if dreams die
  • Assonance- For if dreams die
  • Imagery- Life is a broken-winged bird
  • Repetition- Hold fast to dreams

I found the sound device 'rhythm', because I counted the syllables. I knew it 'rhymes' because of the words at the end. I had 'assonance' because there are vowels that rhyme. I figured it has 'imagery' because of the line "broken winged bird".

The use of sound devices affect the poem mostly because of the sounds that come out from the pronunciation of certain words.

I chose this poem because I like its message. It tells people to never give up in reaching your dreams. It makes me more eager to reach and achieve my dreams.
