PRESENTATION OUTLINE

PAWS FOR A CAUSE

Kenzie Campbell, Katelyn Bowers, Morgan Boone, Alexis H., Austin , Devin Patterson

TOPIC

  • We want the kids at our school to have access to more dress-downs.

REASONS

  • -some of the kids in our school cannot afford a belt or even a basic uniform. Having this embarrassment could use a break. -Some kids are already a little nervous about their size, and making them tuck in their shirts are attention drawing.

-Kids do not want to have to pay for clothes that they already own. It also doesn't make any sense to pay $3 for just a SHIRT, and yet paying $4 for a full dress down. If kids already have to pay to wear the shirt, they should be allowed wear a pair of pants.

If this was you....
-Put yourself in our place. Having to wear a uniform every day for 3 years straight. Some kids don't even own other clothing, so they are stuck wearing a uniform all the time. Imagine having to wear a belt or a trail-tie, even if your pants didn't need one. Imagine having to feel like your stomach was bulging, or that you looked bad.

Fundraising Ideas
Trevor///a kid that went to our school that is diagnosed with cancer. He seems to be healing, but his family needs help paying for his operations and such.
- We are also thinking about maybe running a lemonade stand and other fundraisers to raise more money for certain causes.

MORE ON FUNDRAISING

  • One of our ideas was that we could rotate what we were raising money for each week. The dress downs will cost $1. Dress downs should be every-other-Friday, and on occasions like games. We also thought that we could use the money for snacks or food for kids.

Data/Facts
-1 in every 10 people lives in poverty
-More than 30 million children are growing up in poverty. In one low-income community, there was only one book for every 300 children.
-many families cannot afford things as simple as food
-very few High Schools in South Carolina wear a uniform.
-(Based on IGP conferences) The MOST COMMON reason that most kids are excited to go to High School is so they won't have to wear a uniform.

UNIFORMS

  • Uniforms are limiting the kids at out school
  • If anything, there needs tone more choices of colors
  • Kids need more ways to express their personalities

What would the money be used for?
The money that we earn each every-other week will be used for different things.
-We will present the money to the counsellors and see what they think the money should be used for that month.
-We thought it would also be good to have some free dress downs. These will be rewards for kids having As and Bs, or getting a Wildcat Card. This would encourage kids to get better grades.
-we could use the money to help kids in need

Continued.....
We will have the counsellors tell us who needs some help and we can also do walks and lemonade stands to raise money instead of all of our money I going to dress-downs. Once they tell us around 5-10 people to focus on, we can use that money and the dress down money to help them. This will go into the dress downs because if the kids want a shirt, they can wear it for the dress-down.

How this ties to Health
Out topic of more dress downs ties to health for many reasons. It relates to this because we are improving the quality of life of the kids here. Also, if the fundraising includes physical activity, this will keep kids healthy. Kids will also be happier, which might lead to better grades or more of a willingness to learn.

Conclusion
In conclusion, the only thing that a dress down could do is benefit our school, community, and students. Having more dress downs would give the school more money, whilst also giving the kids a break from dress-downs. Are you ready for our school to become Dress-Down Town?
