In the first half of 2015, there were 2,368 pedestrian deaths.
2015 saw a 10 percent spike in pedestrian deaths from 2014. The number of deaths in the face half of the year was 2,232.
Pedestrian deaths have been on the rise since 2005, and they now are responsible for 15 percent of traffic fatalities.
About 75% of pedestrian collisions occur during night, and a third of the pedestrians were intoxicated.
However, only about 15 percent of the drivers who struck the pedestrians were under the influence.
42 percent of the fatalities came from California, Florida, New York and Texas.
Some of the factors for these increasing fatalities are cellphone distractions, increase in gasoline prices and intoxication.
