WHAT IS IT?

Prescription drug abuse is when someone takes a medication that was prescribed for someone else or takes their
own prescription in a
way not intended by a doctor or for a different reason—like to get high.

• To get high
• To stop/kill pain
• They think it will help them w/ school
• Seen someone else abuse drugs

ABUSE DUE TO GENDER

• Girls: to stay alert or to lose weight.
• Boys: to get high

CONSQUENCES

• Harmful health effects, such as overdose
• Deadly when combined w/alcohol + other drugs
• Quick Addiction
• Changes in your mood, perceptions, and behavior
• Abusing prescription drugs is illegal—(sharing prescriptions)
