The NAme

• A newspaper reporter, Robert Geiger, gave this event its name
• He later referred to it as the "dust belt," but the original name stuck

Deadly dust

• The dust caused coughing spasms, shortness of breath, and asthma
• It also caused bronchitis and influenza 
• Hundreds were killed by the "dust pneumonia"
