How They Form

  • It needs to be windy
  • There must be loose dirt and sand
  • The strong winds pick up the sand and dirt.
  • It eventually turns into a massive wall of dust.

Where Will It Occur

  • Many of them occur in the Sahara Desert.
  • They occur in dry, desert like places.

How Meteorologists Predict Them

  • Using systems called Tapered Element Oscillating Microbalance. 
  • They also use Beta Attenuation.

How Can Someone Prepare For One

  • Have weather radios 
  • Have kits ready for your house and car.
  • The kits need, goggles, masks, and food and water.
  • Have extra clothes.
  • Have extra batteries for the radio

The experiences of people who survived them

  • Many people claimed that dust would find a way into the house.
  • There daily lives were stopped do to the low visibility. 
  • They couldn't go outside because they couldn't breath in the dust and sand.

Possible Damages

  • The storm would cause a disruption in telecommunications
  • Car and air traffic is stopped.
  • Low visibility and little to no daily activities. 
  • Deposition of crops and cropland.
