Back Statistics

  • Dwarf planets are made of rock and ice
  • They can range from 1445 miles to 591.8 miles in diameter
  • Most are located in the Kupier belt
  • They orbit the sun, and are spherical in shape due to there gravity

FACTS

  • Dwarf planets are the right size to be a planet,
  • Need debris cleared of their orbits
  • There diameter is between 950 and 2363 km
  • It takes the 4.5 to 577 earth years to orbit the sun
  • Clyde Tombaugh discovered Pluto in 1930

FACTS

  • New guidelines for planets made Pluto a dwarf planet
  • It has debris in it's orbit
  • No probes have reached Pluto
  • The New Horizons probe will reach Pluto in 2015
  • Plutos orbit is in more of a elliptical shape than a circular shape

FACTS

  • Pluto has 5 moons in its orbit
  • They orbit the sun
  • Ceres is the largest asteroid in the asteroid belt

Fun facts

  • Some scientists consider dwarf planets as planets
  • Scientists recently discovered another possible dwarf planet
  • It is called VP113
  • Makemake was the 4th body identified as a dwarf planet in 2005
