  • Didn't believe they could repeat success of early problems
  • Dealt with anxiety/self-doubt by changing subject or rules

MASTERY RESPONSE

  • "The harder it gets, the harder I need to try."
  • "I LOVE a challenge."
  • "You know, I was HOPING this would be informative."
  • 25% improved and taught themselves new strategies.
  • Did not see failure as an indictment of themselves (low risk)
