WHAT IT IS

  • Dyslexia is the name for specific learning disabilities in reading.
  • Dyslexia is often characterized by difficulties with decoding and spelling.
  • Dyslexia may result in poor reading fluency and reading out loud
  • Dyslexia is neurological and often genetic.

HOW DO YOU GET IT
The causes for dyslexia are neurobiological and genetic. Individuals inherit the genetic links for dyslexia. Chances are that one of the child's parents, grandparents, aunts, or uncles is dyslexic.

SIGNS OF DYSLEXIA

  • Recognizing letters
  • Blending letter sounds with words
  • Recognizing and remembering site words
  • Learning and remembering new vocabulary words
  • Writing letters numbers and symbols in the correct order

HOW TO MANAGE IT

  • Be positive
  • Find the help you need
  • Slow down your thoughts one step at a time
  • Don't give up so easy
  • Remember that you are not dumb you just think differently than others
