  • 1955 - Disney Land opens in California.
  • 1950 - Korean War begins
  • 1952 - Dwhite D. Eisenhower elected.
  • 1950 - First organ transplant (kidney)
  • 1953 - DNA is discovered.
  • 1955 - Vietnam war begins.
  • 1956 – Elvis Presley appears on The Ed Sullivan Show for the first time.
  • 1956 – Jackson Pollock dies in a car crash
  • 1961 – Alan Shepard pilots the Freedom 7 capsule to become the first American in space

ELVIS'S YOUTH

  • January 8, 1935: Gladys Presley gives birth to two children. Jessie Garen was born a stillborn but Elvis Aaron made it through.
  • October 3, 1945: Elvis at 10 years old, gets on a chair at a microphone & sings Old Sheep at a youth talent contest.
  • June 3, 1953: Elvis graduates from Humes High School.
  • 1958: Elvis joins the US Army
