DATA ON PLUTO

HOW LONG WOULD

A DAY on pluto be?

A DAY ON PLUTO

  • Earth day = 24 hours
  • Pluto day = 6.4 × 24 = 153.6
  • A day on Pluto is 153.6 hours

The moon is in a synchronous with Earth. What is a result of this type of orbit?

We ALways see the same side of the moon

  • The side of the moon we see is the dark side of the moon
  • Only one side is visible from Earth because the moon rotates at its spin axis at the same rate that it orbits Earth
  • A term for this is tidal locking

Astronomers measure distances between the Sun and other objects in the solar system in astronomical units (AU). Our astronomical unit is the distance between the Sun and Earth. In AU, how many times farther from the Sun is Pluto than Jupiter?

DISTANCE FROM SUN (AU)

DIVISION

  • divide the number for Pluto (39) by Jupiters (5.2)
  • 39 ÷ 5.2 = 7.5
  • The sun is 7.5 (AU) times farther to Pluto than Jupiter

WHERE DID ASTEROIDS ORIGINATE FROM?

Asteroids are small, rocky-like worlds. It is said it could be the remains of an exploded planet or leftovers from planets forming

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN INNER AND OUTER PLANETS?

outer planets are mainly larger and made up of gas. Inner planets are hotter because they are closer to the sun. Inner and outer planets are separated by the asteroid belt.

life of a star

  • depending on their mass, they reach the end of their revolution as a white dwarf, neutron star, or black hole.
  • high-mass stars are more likely to become a neutron star or black hole.
  • low-mass stars are more likely to become a white dwarf
