Lighting is a flash of a electrical bolt that hits the ground.Thunderstorms are a mix of lighting and sometimes rain or hail and gusty winds at high speeds.

Lighting happens when ice bumps into each other causes protons on the top of the cloud and electrons at the bottom of the cloud build up and creates a positive charge on the ground,then eventually reach each other.Thunderstorms are made when water builds up in the clouds and hot and cloud air hit each other and makes a storm.

If you are out side you can get to ditch.Stay away from wet stuff,and try not to be the tallest thing.If you are inside go to your basement or a bathroom ,just get to a room with out windows.Get flash lights just in case the power goes out.
