At 9:51 P.M.August 31, 1886. A large earthquake hit Charleston, South Carolina.

It destroyed everything. 60 people were killed and, there was 5-6 million dollars in damages

  • Almost every standing structure was damaged
  • 80 kilometers worth of railways were destroyed

The earthquake was caused by shifting in a fault line near Charleston. It's magnitude was 7.3

People felt the earth quake 1000 kilometers away. It hit Alabama, Ohio, Virginia, West Virginia, and Kentucky

The Great Charleston earthquake of 1886 will forever be remembered as one of the worst earthquakes in the United States of America.
