EARTHQUAKE
How does it occur?
Our earth's outer layer is broken into pieces called tectonic plates which are about 100km thick and are constantly moving towards, away from or past each other. When these tectonic plates crash into each others this causes an earthquake.

🐯IMPACT ON THE PEOPLE AND ENVIRONMENT🐯
The Sumatra Earthquake in 2004, destroyed countless homes and thousands of habitats. People were left homeless, hungry and unhappy. Even though there were only five deaths, a lot of people felt like their lives were over.
🐯IMPACT ON THE PEOPLE AND ENVIRONMENT🐯
After the earthquake that reached 9.3 in magnitude, there was a giant tsunami. This killed nearly 300,000 innocent people. The waves may of been as high as 25meters (80 feet)
FACTS
- It happened on Boxing Day
- The tsunami that followed had waves that reached 25 meters
- Charlee's tsunami was caused by this earthquake
- The tsunami traveled as far as 3,000 miles
- At least 500,000 people were injured
