EAST ASIA

SEA OF JAPAN

  • A marginal sea of the western Pacific Ocean, between the Asian mainland,
  • and the Japanese archipelago and Sakhalin.
  • It is bordered by Japan, North Korea, Russia and South Korea.
  • It has almost no tides due to its nearly complete enclosure from the Pacific Ocean.
  • The sea has no large islands, bays or capes.

TAIWAN

  • It is officially the Republic of China.
  • The East China Sea lies to the north, the Philippine Sea to the east.
  • The Bashi Channel of the Luzon Strait directly to the south, and the South China Sea to the southwest.
  • All are arms of the Pacific Ocean.
  • The shape of the main island of Taiwan is similar to a sweet potato.

KUNLUN MOUNTAINS

  • They are one of the longest mountain chains in Asia.
  • They form the northern edge of the Tibetan Plateau.
  • Kunlun means the mountain belt that runs across the center of China.
  • The source of the Yellow River.

PLATEAU OF TIBET

  • It is a vast, elevated plateau in Central Asia.
  • It stretches approximately 1,000 kilometres north to south.
  • The Tibetan Plateau is sometimes called "the Roof of the World".
  • The Tibetan Plateau is the headwaters of the drainage basins of most of the streams.

KOREA STRAIT

  • The Korea Strait is a sea passage between Japan and South Korea.
  • It connects the East China Sea and the Sea of Japan in the northwest Pacific Ocean.
  • The strait is split by the Tsushima Island.
  • To the north it is bounded by the southern coast of the Korean Peninsula.

HUANG HE (YELLOW RIVER)

  • It is the second-longest river in Asia.
  • It empties into the Bohai Sea.
  • It drains into Gyaring Lake and Ngoring Lake.
  • It flows generally eastward across the North China Plain.
