POWHATAN CLOTHING

  • Powhatan women usually wore beaded head bands with a feather in it.
  • They painted their faces and bodies with different colors and designs for different occasions.
  • Powhatan women wore knee length skirts and the men wore breech clothes with leather pant legs.
  • Both genders wore earrings and moccasins.
  • Also both men and women wore tattoes.

FOOD

  • The Powhatan's planted crops like corn ,squash, tobacco ,and melon.
  • Farming and hunting were there main focus
  • The Powhatan's ate beans,pumpkins,sunflowers,gourds,berries,nuts,meat,squash,fish,and Jerusalem artichokes,seeds too.
  • They fished through fresh water.
  • The Powhatan's hunted beaver,squrill,bear,deer,rabbits,and wolf.

  • Did you know Powhatan's lived in long houses.
  • The houses contained shelfs to contain their most prized positions.
  • The long houses size depended on how much room they needed to use for their family's.
  • The houses were shaped like rectangles.
  • The Powhatan's used saplings to build the houses walls

  • Some jobs that all Powhatan's had were fishing,farming,and hunting.
  • The Powhatan's jobs were very important to them because that was there food source
  • They also had jobs like collecting wood and making string
  • Powhatan's made shoes,water bottles,clothes,and spheres.
  • The kids had to help with collecting wood.

  • Also the Powhatan's road horses.
  • The horses were a big help to there life style.
  • Powhatan's traveled on rafts made of branches.
  • They also walked and ran by foot.
